The NT Training Awards is the Department of Business and Employment’s annual premier event recognising training excellence and achievements by Territory businesses, training organisations, apprentices, trainees and students across eleven categories. The categories are split into two groups: individual and organisational. |

- Trainee of the Year (national)
- Vocational Student of the Year (national)
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year (national)
- Austin Asche Apprentice of the Year (national)
- School-Based Apprentice or Trainee of the Year (national)
- VET in Schools Student of the Year (state)
- VET Teacher / Trainer of the Year (national)
The brackets refer to whether the category is an Australian Training Awards category or a Northern Territory only category. If it’s a national category, all student winners will automatically go through to the national awards. The VET Teacher/Trainer of the Year will be eligible to go through the short-listing process for national awards. The original application submitted for the NT Training Awards will be used. |

Each individual category has a separate judging panel who base their shortlisting decisions on the written nomination, then interview the finalists at the judging weekend to decide the winners. Note: the VET Teacher / Trainer category will incorporate the same judging process as the organisation categories. The dates below outlines the timeline for the judging:
- Nominations close - Friday 11 May 2012
- Shortlisting of nominations - week commencing Monday 4 June 2012
- Finalists announced - mid-June 2012
- Student Finalist Judging Weekend - Saturday 23 to Monday 25 June 2012
- Gala Awards Night - Saturday 15 September 2012 (in Darwin)
- Australian Training Awards Finalist Week - Monday 12 to Saturday 17 November 2012 (in Melbourne)
- Australian Training Awards Gala Awards Night - Friday 16 November 2012 (in Melbourne)

Each organisational category has a separate judging panel who base their shortlisting decisions on the written nomination then interview the finalists to decide the winners. The below flowchart outlines the timeline for the judging:
