Teacher application

Teachers can nominate to participate in the Chief Minister’s Anzac Spirit Study Tour Award as a chaperone. The study tour group will consist of three students, one teacher chaperone and one Defence Attaché (one female and one male).

Teachers in NT government and non-government schools are eligible to nominate. All entries must be endorsed by the teacher’s school principal or supervisor.

Teacher chaperone responsibilities

The teacher chaperone, will be responsible for the overall wellbeing, supervision and security of the three students selected to travel on the study tour. As such they will represent the Chief Minister, the Northern Territory Government and Northern Territory teachers.

The selected chaperone will also be required to:

  • take part in planning and preparation for the study tour from January to April
  • participate in post-tour activities such as speaking to school and community groups about the study tour
  • participate in media events
  • maintain a travel journal throughout the study tour, which will be referenced in the preparation and promotion of future study tours.

Selection criteria

To enter, teachers are required to submit a statement addressing the following criteria (maximum 500 words):

  • Detail how this experience would enhance your professional learning
  • Demonstrated outstanding personal qualities for an international representational role and excellent interpersonal skills with students
  • Experience in planning and conducting extended excursions.

Eligibility criteria

  • The applicant must be registered with the Northern Territory Teachers Registration Board.
  • The applicant must have the endorsement of their school principal.
  • The applicant must possess an appropriate level of physical fitness and health.
  • The applicant’s principal must agree to provide time release for the study tour.
  • The applicant must be willing to participate in scheduled before and after study tour activities including planning sessions, media events and speaking arrangements.
  • The applicant must have an Australian passport with six months validity at the date of travel or must have the ability to obtain an Australian passport.
  • The applicant must nominate three confidential referees when submitting their application.
  • The applicant must hold a Senior First Aid Certificate that will be valid for the duration of the tour. Please attach a copy of the appropriate certificate to your application.

Timelines

Applications must be submitted to schools by 12 August 2011. Schools must submit short-listed applications by 29 August 2011.

Short-listed applicants will be interviewed by a panel in September 2011.

Selected applicants will be announced in September 2011. All short-listed applicants will be contacted by letter following the completion of the selection process.

Submission details

Applications open annually on Anzac Day with the successful applicant announced later in the year.
