The Chief Minister’s Anzac Spirit Study Tour Award will support students to explore the history of Anzac Day and the continuing importance of Australia’s involvement in various conflicts and peacekeeping missions. It will provide an exciting opportunity for three Year 9 and 10 students to visit a World War I battlefield of significance to Australia and the Anzacs to coincide with 2013 Anzac Day commemorations. The study tour will visit Villers-Bretonneux, France.

Three students will be invited to participate in the fully funded study tour. To be considered, students are required to submit an entry that examines an aspect of Australia’s involvement in World War I.

The study tour will cover the costs of travel, accommodation, insurance, meals, uniform, passport and visa expenses, and additional expenses for the duration of the 7-10 day tour.

The study tour group will consist of three students, one teacher chaperone and one Defence Attaché (one female and one male).

Only two entries can be submitted per school. Schools will be required to select their top two entries based on merit, which will be forwarded to a panel of judges for consideration.

Expectations of prize winners

The three students selected to take place on the study tour will be expected to:
  • adhere to appropriate behaviour, dress codes and protocol for the duration of the study tour
  • provide a travel journal of their experiences on the trip on return to the Northern Territory
  • act as an ambassador for the study tour by participating in media and community events.
