The Regional Development Unit facilitates the creation of strong regions throughout the Northern Territory in three main ways:

  • Strengthening relationships and facilitating the flow of information between stakeholders, including private enterprise and all levels of government , to support the implementation of key projects
  • Supporting economic growth through funding programs such as the Indigenous Business Development Fund and the Regional Economic Development Fund
  •  Managing nine regionally based economic development committees.

A major priority is Indigenous economic development, which has its own dedicated team of staff.

The Regional Development Unit has its headquarters in Alice Springs and offices in Tennant Creek, Katherine, Nhulunbuy and Darwin. Staff in the regional offices are available to discuss any potential economic development project or idea.
