Economic Development Committee - General Information

The Minister for Regional Development, the Hon Karl Hampton MLA, invites people from all over the Territory to get involved in a local Economic Development Committee.

These Committees ensure that the economic priorities and aspirations of their community are communicated directly to the Territory Government.

Role of an Economic Development Committee

• To identify economic development priorities; and
• Develop and monitor the implementation of (local) Economic Development Plans within their 'community of interest'.
• Committees are encouraged to focus on projects identified from their community priorities.

Community of interest

Communities of interest are not bound by municipal or administrative boundaries. They are determined as areas which share common goals, capacity or impediments to economic development.

By focussing on smaller geographic areas, the Committees will be better able to identify the issues and priorities important to their community of interest, focussing on local job creation and business growth opportunities.

Nominees preferably should have:

• Strong networks in their area
• An interest in developing jobs and businesses
• Experience in and knowledge of their local business, industry or financial sectors.

Note:

• Committee membership is an honorary capacity.
• Reasonable travel and accommodation costs will be met.

The Regional Development Officer (RDO) located in a regional office of the Department of Regional Development, Primary Industry, Fisheries and Resources (DRDPIFR).

Offices are located in Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, Katherine, Nhulunbuy and Darwin.
