OUR VISION for the FUTURE

We will have the highest quality of life and prosperity for all our residents.
Our youth will be given opportunities which will enable them to realise their full potential.

OUR MISSION

Is to  focus on four areas:

  • Our economy
  • Our community and people
  • Our infrastructure, and
  • Our natural resources.

 OUR PRIORITIES

Education and Training

  • Increase educational and training opportunities to enable more local people particularly indigenous people to participate in regional jobs and sustainable economic activities.
  • Development of effective industry development to provide real employment opportunities, coupled with appropriate training to existing members of the local workforce.
  • Primary education is fundamental and the links between school, (education) training, employment and a sustainable economy should be recognised.
  • Develop employment and small business support material that could be translated into Yolngu Matha and broadcast or printed in local community newsletters.

Infrastructure

  • Upgrade access infrastructure – remote regional road network, port / barge access and airstrips.
  • Ensure prospective investors recognise the importance of Land Use Agreements and negotiation for land tenure access,
  • Obtain funding through the Backing Indigenous Ability telecommunications program to access upgraded internet coverage for all residents.
  • Support the investigations for expanded public transport and bush bus network.
  • Investigate long term options to address community housing shortages including land release, identification and provision of essential services etc.
  • Support the rollout of the SIHIP Housing initiatives in the region.

Tourism

  • Support the reinvigoration of the EALTA group.
  • Support the Pilot Tourism Development Hub concept.
  • Support the expansion and growth for Indigenous tourism businesses regardless of their location in the region.
  • Encouraging the negotiation of joint ventures between Indigenous and non-Indigenous businesses.
  • Improving the process of access to land and water for all.
  • Investigate incentives for business to relocate to East Arnhem and to employ local people.
