A small team attended another successful M2009 in Brisbane last week. This event is one of Australia’s most high profiled annual event for the minerals industry and over 1000 people attended.

The conference ran over three days from 28-30 October 2009. On day two Ms Dorothy Close, gave a presentation on Emerging Greenfields Provinces and New Discoveries in the Northern Territory and was a very popular presentation with over 200 delegates attending. New updated Ore-Struck sales kits were released at the conference including the latest on NT mineral opportunities and the NT Mining Development Report. These reports are available from the links above. update china strategy 

The NT continues to expand its profile in China with a visit to Beijing, Tianjin, Shandong and Hunan province Oct 18-28, 2009. The visit coincided with the China Mining Congress and Australia China Investment Seminar. Minister Vatskalis led the delegation which included 12 industry representatives from Westgold Resources, TNG Ltd, North Australia Iron Ore, Australian Illmenite Resources, CSA, Austwide Mining, Minter Ellison and Clayton Utz. 

 
The team also ran 3 NT events including the 5th NT Investment Seminar hosted by CCCMC (China Chamber of Commerce of Metals & Minerals). 37 NT exploration projects were promoted to potential Chinese investors and new information was released on base metal opportunities in the Territory. 30 meetings were scheduled during the course of the visit which attracted significant interest.
 
In Shandong the delegation established new links which included the Shandong Provincial Government and the Shandong Exploration Development Bureau. The Shandong Government hosted the first NT Investment Seminar in Shandong with Chinese executives attending from the Exploration Bureau, Shandong Ludi and various Shandong organisations.

update japan strategy

In July this year the Department joined forces with Japan Organisation JOGMEC to run a special program as part of the Japan Minerals Investment Attraction Strategy which aims to match NT exploration projects to potential Japanese investors.

The Northern Territory Uranium Opportunities program was a joint NT-Japanese effort and was support by JOGMEC (Japan Oil Gas and Metals National Corp) and the Australian Embassy in Tokyo. It came to fruition after the successful NT Investment Seminars run in Tokyo in May 2008 and 2009. These seminars have resulted in a number of discussions between the NT Explorers and Japanese investors and also a $17 million joint venture between Itochu and Western Desert Resources for the Roper Bar iron-ore project in December 2008.

The NT Uranium Opportunities program was the first of its kind and was run before the Australian Uranium Conference to allow Japanese companies to meet the Northern Territory team before other conference participants. The NT team included NT Exploration executives form Bondi Mining, Rum Jungle, Thundelarra and Territory Uranium.

The program was attended by 21 Japanese executives from major Japanese companies including Sumitomo, Mitsui, Itochu and Mitsubishi. It was opened by Japanese Consul General, Torau Sato and Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry Director, Mr Morimoto. JOGMEC and the Japanese attendees were very happy with the program and there is good prospect for Japanese investment in the future.
