Generous Employment Benefits
The NTPS provides up to 6 weeks annual leave. Other benefits upon permanent commencement include three weeks paid sick leave including access to 10 days family leave, up to 4 weeks Defence leave for reservists, generous maternity and paternity leave provisions and NT Allowance for employees with dependants. Superannuation of 9% is generally paid in addition to salary and sacrifice is available.

DRDPIFR encourages all employees to maintain a healthy work life balance. To help facilitate this balance, flexible working hours and family friendly work arrangements are common.
Arrangements may include: home-based work, job sharing, part-time work, career breaks and short term absences for family and community responsibilities.
Learning opportunities
DRDPIFR is committed to investing in the training and development of its staff; as such, employees are encouraged to develop a learning plan with their supervisor. The objective is to provide staff with the skills necessary to achieve results, and aid career development. Employees also have the opportunity to become involved in cross agency projects, planning activities, job transfers and work on various committees. DRDPIFR Study Assistance Policy provides support for professional education relevant to the employees work.

The Annual Employee STAR Awards recognise staff achievements. Recipients receive financial support towards their professional development.
