Our Purpose

To develop policies and programs that promote Indigenous economic development; assist Indigenous people with developing their businesses; provide access to NT and Australian government business support programs and services; and, raise awareness of the opportunities for Indigenous people in the minerals and energy sector.

Our Functions

• Develop policies, strategies and programs to promote Indigenous economic development
• Lead and coordinate the implementation of policies and programs within DBERD
• Represent DBERD on Indigenous economic development matters and on the Indigenous Economic Development Taskforce
• Assist Indigenous people to get started in business, and existing Indigenous operators to expand their businesses
• Assist Indigenous business owners and managers to improve their business management capabilities
• Advise on NT and Australian Government services and programs
• Develop solutions for issues and barriers that impact on Indigenous economic development
• Facilitate projects that stimulate or support new activities within industries
• Support the development of new industries
• Work in partnership with other government agencies and organisations to ensure economic opportunities are maximised
• Assist Government and industry in accessing Aboriginal controlled land
