Partnerships and Pathways
3rd Indigenous Economic Development Forum

The Northern Territory Government hosted the Indigenous Economic Development (IED) Summit in November 2001 and committed to holding three Forums aimed at exploring ways to achieve equitable economic outcomes for Indigenous Territorians.

The first IED Forum, 'Seizing Our Economic Future' was held March 2003. This Forum highlighted areas where positive economic progress is being made and addressed the requirements for IED in four key areas: (1) employment, education and training, (2) financial capacity and governance, (3) sustainable economic use of country, and (4) tourism and arts.

The second IED Forum, 'Our Place, Our Progress, Our Potential' held in May 2005 highlighted the launch of the Northern Territory Indigenous Economic Development Strategy. The Forum featured presentation sessions and workshops in Horticulture and Bush Food, Tourism and Parks, Mining and Major Enterprises, Arts, Knowledge and Media, Retail and Service, Natural Resource Management, and Pastoral and Aquaculture. This Forum also provided opportunities for networking and for exchanging ideas from successes and pitfalls.

The third Forum, 'Partnerships and Pathways' was held on 14 and 15 November 2007 in Darwin. Building on the previous two Forums, this Forum had an emphasis on "doing business" - creating business opportunities, building business partnerships, celebrating successes and develop capacity in Indigenous communities to participate in sustainable economic activity.
