Some of the best minds in the pastoral production industry will be on hand at the Barkly Herd Management Forum to assist station staff develop their knowledge base and understanding of the basic principles required to manage a profitable enterprise.
"The forum will help station workers develop an appreciation of the region's resources, understand the steps necessary to preserve land condition and expand their knowledge on the factors affecting production in northern Australian beef herds,” Pastoral Production Technical Officer, CASSIE DUGGAN said.
"The forum runs for two days on the 3rd and 4th of September and topics include animal welfare, grazing land management, woody weeds, implications of current NT research, reproductive performance and staff retention.
"Attendees will participate in interactive sessions that provide recommendations and key strategies specifically for the Barkly region and allow them to learn from experts in various fields.
"If we are to further develop the Territory's pastoral industry it's important that we provide producers with the latest in scientifically based information related to animal production and land management" Ms Duggan said.
The Barkly Herd Management Forum is hosted by the S Kidman and Co properties 'Helen Springs' and 'Brunchilly', facilitated by the Department of Regional Development, Primary Industry, Fisheries and Resources, and funded by Meat and Livestock Australia.
