3. Quarantine Regulations
The movement of cattle and buffalo to interstate and overseas destinations is subject to certain quarantine regulations from these States and overseas countries. The movement of livestock within the Northern Territory is also subject to movement regulations.
The Northern Territory DBIRD facilitates quarantine requirements by implementing programs for:
- monitoring international goods and passengers on arrival for detection and containment of imported pests and diseases;
- ensuring compliance with interstate quarantine requirements (eg tick dipping);
- providing a certification program that assists the international marketing of live animals; and
- providing the Northern Territory livestock industry with information on overseas countries' export requirements.
