The Chief Veterinary Officer of the Department of Regional Development, Primary Industry, Fisheries and Resources, Brian Radunz, has announced a series of workshops for vets and horse owners regarding the risk of Hendra Virus infection in Territory horses.
Department veterinarians and livestock biosecurity officers carry out a range of activities to monitor and improve the health of NT animal populations.
- Investigate the occurrence of diseases in the NT livestock industries and significant disease events in non-production animals including feral animals and wildlife.
- Provide credible disease surveillance information to protect public and animal health and support the trade of livestock and livestock products.
- Participate in national animal health surveillance and control programs.
- Investigate reports of emergency, endemic and exotic notifiable diseases.
