Chemical products must be used in accord with the label instructions. In the Territory unless there is a label direction to the contrary, it is not an offence, to use a chemical product in any of the following ways:
It must be remembered that the 'Control of Use' Act specifies a duty of care in relation to persons, the environment and trade.
The 'State Column' in the Directions for Use may be disregarded unless there is a statement to the effect that the product cannot be used in the Territory. For example, if the 'Directions for Use' state on the label of a registered product (for example Crop - mangoes, Pest - red banded thrip and State - Queensland), the product can be used for that use profile in the Northern Territory.
Other off-label uses of agricultural chemical products require an APVMA permit.
These points are further covered in RDPIFR Agnote No I49 'Agricultural Chemical Products'.
