From 1 July 2007 cattle to be eligible for export as slaughter or feeder cattle must be pregnancy tested by a registered vet or by a layperson accredited by RDPIFR on behalf of the NT Government. This is to provide improved assurance that cattle do not calve on ships or in feedlots.
The Charles Darwin University Rural Campus, Katherine, will conduct assessment of experienced pregnancy testers and training and assessment for new pregnancy testers on behalf of RDPIFR.
Contact Natalie at the Rural Campus on 8973 8311 to register expressions of interest in completing requirements for unit RTE4124A.
The initial priority will be to assess persons currently pregnancy testing female export cattle.
Dependant on bookings, the Rural Campus could provide assessment at Mataranka Station from June 14-16 and June 20-22. 5 assessments per day can be done. A total of 30 students could be assessed.
The Rural Campus is offering training workshops at Mataranka Station August 14-16 and August 16-18. Depending on interest, additional workshops on August 21-23 and August 23-25 can be scheduled. Six students per course. A total of 24 students could be done.
Alternatively the Rural Campus staff may be able to conduct RPL assessment or training and assessment on stations. Contact Jenni at the Rural Campus to organise.
Further assessment and training will depend on demand.
Although AQIS is being requested to defer implementation until 1 January 2007 to enable a reasonable number of pregnancy testers to be assessed, it is strongly recommended that you do not delay.
