Australia's Northern Territory - The Preferred Exploration Destination

[ 20/02/2009 ]

20th February 2009

The Northern Territory will be promoted as the preferred mineral exploration investment destination during a number of high level overseas seminars and meetings by senior executives from the Department of Regional Development, Primary Industry, Fisheries and Resources.

Director of the Northern Territory Geological Survey (NTGS), Dr Ian Scrimgeour, and the Executive Director of Resources, Richard Sellers, will sell the virtues of investing in the Territory to Japanese and Canadian companies.

Dr Scrimgeour will attend the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) conference in Toronto in early March.

“PDAC is one of the world’s largest mining and exploration conventions and I look forward to travelling there as part of an Australian delegation to discuss investment opportunities in the Territory,” Dr Scrimgeour said.

“Toronto is seen as one of the major mining finance capitals of the world and it’s important that we try and direct some of the exploration capital raised in Canada to projects in the NT.

“I will also deliver a presentation at the Australia-Japan Mineral Investment Seminar in Tokyo where I will promote the Territory to investors in the mineral exploration business.

“During our visit to Japan we will meet with members of the Japanese Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) and Itochu Corporation,” Dr Scrimgeour said. “In the past year these corporations have already committed a total of over $20 million in funding for early-stage mineral exploration in the Territory”.

Richard Sellers will also attend the PDAC conference where he will undertake a number of high level one-on-one meetings with various investment and mineral exploration companies.
