CHIEF MINISTER
13 January 2009
Chief Minister Paul Henderson has announced a new initiative to promote and support the energy and resources industries in the Northern Territory.
Mr Henderson told the China Mining Association in Beijing that the Northern Territory Government would develop a dedicated Chinese mining website portal to service the industry and promote further investment in the Territory.
"The new service will provide details about potential resource development opportunities and also help match potential investors with local companies and other investors," Mr Henderson said.
"The portal will be part of a one stop shop within the Department of Regional Development, Primary Industries, Fisheries and Resources to handle all enquiries from the Chinese mining sector.
"The new services will be part our China Investment Attraction Strategy which already includes a registry of 46 Territory projects that may be seeking to attract further investment.
"There have also been 50 visits to the NT by 29 Chinese companies as part of the Strategy.
"The website portal service will provide further information and support for potential investors – leading to jobs, business opportunities and income for the Territory."
Mr Henderson is now in Osaka where he will begin meeting key Japanese gas industry players.
Osaka is the third leg of a 10 day trip to promote development and investment in the Territory in Asia and the U.S.
