Fact Sheet - Angela and Pamela Exploration

Q Is this a new development?
A No. The Angela Pamela prospects are historic exploration sites which were explored in
the 1970s and 1980s.

Q Why was a Reservation from Occupation (RO) placed over the Angela Pamela
Prospect?
A Due to low commodity prices in the 1970s and 1980s it was not considered economically
viable to continue exploration. So, at the request of the explorer, an RO was placed over
the area to preserve it for future exploration when the economics improved.

Q So why was the RO removed?
A Following a review of all ROs in the Northern Territory, the RO for Angela Pamela was
revoked. The economic and commercial basis for setting aside Angela Pamela is no
longer valid. The company that initially requested the RO no longer existed.

Q Was the removal of the RO publicly announced?
A Yes. The removal of the RO over the Angela Pamela deposits was publicly announced
through media releases and public notices in the NT News prior to the date of the
release.

Q Is there any consultation process prior to granting an exploration licence?
A Yes. All exploration licence applications are advertised in the NT News and also the Koori
Mail if required. Copies of the notices are available on the department’s website. Further

Q If an exploration licence is granted when does mining start?
A An exploration licence does not allow mining. Should any exploration prove successful
the explorer must then apply for a Mineral Lease. This will trigger a thorough
environmental assessment process, including community consultation as well as
approvals from both the Northern Territory Government and the Commonwealth
Government. Any approval to mine must take into account the findings of those
assessments.

Q Will exploration adversely impact the environment?
A Exploration has minimal impact on the environment and is strictly monitored by the
Northern Territory Government.
