The regulation of health and safety for mining and onshore petroleum exploration and development activities has been transferred to NT WorkSafe http://www.worksafe.nt.gov.au/.
The Department of Regional Development, Primary Industry, Fisheries and Resources will remain the lead agency for administering mineral and energy matters including development, authorisation and environmental issues.
While the transfer of safety regulation is expected to make little difference to mine operators, there will be further notifications of any changes to contacts as the transfer progresses as well as them being posted on this web site.
Notification of incidents involving health and safety issues only will be handled by NT WorkSafe. In practice it is understood that many incidents involve both safety and environmental and so both RDPIFR and NT WorkSafe will ensure notification is passed on to the other respectively as required. Reporting of employment and incident data will continue to be handled through the current contacts.
Onshore petroleum production facilities continue to be regulated by NT RDPIFR.
The regulation of health and safety for offshore activities has been transferred to NOPSA http://www.nopsa.gov.au/.
Notification of incidents involving health and safety issues only will be handled by NOPSA. In practice it is understood that many incidents involve both safety and environmental and so both RDPIFR and NOPSA will ensure notification is passed on to the other respectively as required.
