Fuel Emergency Management 

 

The Department of Regional Development, Primary Industry, Fisheries and Resources plays a key coordinating role in the operation of the Fuel Emergency Advisory Committee (FEAC). FEAC is responsible for developing a coordinated Government response to liquid fuel crises in the Northern Territory and act as an advisory body to the Minister responsible for the Essential Goods and Services Act. Its functions include pre-emergency planning, through devising and updating a Northern Territory Fuel Emergency Plan, and the provision of advice to the Minister as to the exercise of his/her powers under the Act during a declared fuel shortage. FEAC comprises of representatives from government agencies and departments, and from the oil industry.

The Department represents the Northern Territory on the National Oil Supply Emergency Committee, which is responsible for national oil emergency measures and for liaison with the International Energy Agency on matters of oil allocation in an international emergency.
