Evaluations Team
The Evaluations team’s work includes the development, regulation and monitoring of aspects of the environmental performance of mine sites in the Northern Territory under the Mining Management Act 2001.
In this, the Government takes into account the expectations and requirements of stakeholder groups and works to facilitate and encourage industry to implement world’s best practice in managing the environmental aspects associated with mining.
Environmental Monitoring Unit
The Environmental Monitoring Unit plays an integral role in the ongoing functionality of the other teams within the Authorisations and Compliance Division. The unit is an on the ground unit that physically samples water from selected mine sites in the Northern Territory. The analysis of this data enables the monitoring of mine site environmental performance, the verification of the mining company supplied environmental data and if required intervention and notification in the event of potential environmental impacts relating to mining activities.
