Access to Land - Titles

The Minerals and Energy Group through the administration of the Mining Act, Petroleum Act and other associated legislation provides access to land in the Northern Territory for the purpose of exploration and mining.

All forms of titles associated with exploration and mining in the Territory (including Fossicking Permits) are administered by the Titles Division of the Minerals and Energy Group. Petroleum Titles are administered predominantly under the Petroleum Act, Geothermal Titles under the Geothermal Energy Act and Mineral Titles under the Mining Act. The Division grants and monitors exploration and mining titles to comply with current legislation. It maintains title ownership and mining/exploration activities in its Titles Management System.

Public access to the Titles Management System is available through the Titles Information System. This online query system provides information on all current exploration and mining titles by way of an interactive map of the Territory. While general access is limited, comprehensive title details are available to registered users. Registration for TIS is free and available to anyone by faxing the completed Registration Form to the Division on (08) 8981 7106.
