Background:
NTGS recognises the importance of less extensive private sector airborne and ground geophysical surveys that exceed the specifications of NTGS surveys. It is a statutory requirement for all explorers to submit located digital data corresponding to geophysical surveys undertaken on or over tenements. This data remains closed file until such time the tenement is surrendered, or the explorer agrees to its earlier public release. At this point, the survey data becomes open file, and available for use by other explorers.
Existing Datasets:
NTGS has developed a spatial index of open file company geophysical surveys, featuring comprehensive specifications of all surveys for which NTGS holds digital data.
Order located data for individual surveys on DVD by contacting the Minerals and Energy InfoCentre.
NTGS possesses a sizeable archive of Landsat 7 data over the Northern Territory. The Landsat 7 sensor has:
The archive currently comprises 48 scenes (PDF 64KB), as well as colour balanced mosaics (PDF 141KB) over several 1:250 000 mapsheets. All data has been processed to Level 9 (ie, geocoded to AMG/MGA datum using system parameters and 100 000 topographic control), and is available as ER Mapper .ERS and .ECW, and MapInfo .TAB files.
Composite 3-band ratios of bands 7 (Red), 4 (Green) and 1 (Blue) are also available as compressed .ECW images and MapInfo .TAB files for all 48 scenes.
The data and imagery can be ordered through the Minerals and Energy InfoCentre.
Additional information on the Landsat 7 satellite can be found on the Geoscience Australia National Mapping website. Copyright for Landsat 7 data is vested in the Commonwealth of Australia.
