The Northern Territory Geological Survey aims to provide better understanding of the geological provinces of the NT and the broader context in which they lie, in order to further the exploration of mineral, petroleum and hydrothermal resources.
This section of the website provides detailed and technical information on the geology, geophysics and commodities found in the Territory.
Geology of the Northern Territory provides summaries of each of the geological regions within the Territory. The Geology and Mineral Deposits of the Northern Territory will be the quintessential compendium of all geoscience knowledge on the Territory and is scheduled for release in late 2009.
The NTGS undertakes a range of field-based projects with the aim of refining the stratigraphic relationships, structure, geochemistry and geochronology of specific areas such as mapsheets, or geological domains. A summary of each current project is provided, together with updates of technical data, as they become available.
The commodities section provides an overview of each type of mineral commodity, including prospectivity and known resources.
The current geophysical acquisition programs undertaken by the NTGS include the capture and interpretation of regional gravity programs. Data collected and survey parameters are available from this site.
