NT Recreational Fishing Survey Boat Ramp Interviews Begin

[ 03/04/2009 ]

Top End residents are being urged to take part in a comprehensive survey to provide valuable information on recreational fishing in the Northern Territory.

The NT recreational fishing survey began in February 2009 and will run until March 2010.

"We have already commenced our phone section of the survey and will begin boat ramp interviews from today, Friday 3rd April," Aquatic Resources Manager, Steven Matthews said.

"Recreational anglers will be asked to answer a few questions on what fish they caught within an approximate location and how many people went fishing.

"All information collected will be treated confidentially and the public’s assistance will be greatly appreciated, so we can get an accurate picture of the fishing habits of Territory residents and visiting anglers.

"Since the last survey was undertaken the number of people fishing in the Territory has increased and we need to get a better understanding of current activity and catches.

"Fishing is a popular past time for many Territory residents and we need to update information to ensure our fisheries are managed in a sustainable manner", Mr Matthews said.
