The Genetag Research Project is a unique study; we are examining the potential of genetagging fish to determine the size of harvested stocks. Instead of using plastic tags to identify individuals, we are utilising the unique DNA fingerprint of each animal.
To turn the concept of genetically tagging fish into reality, project staff have had to invent some novel tools and methods. For example, we have developed a biopsy hook that can sample (tag) fish without even bringing them to the boat.
