Fisheries Management Recent Highlights

• Completion of the voluntary buy-back of nine licences from the Coastal Net Fishery and the subsequent closure of DarwinHarbour and ShoalBay to the commercial Coastal Net and Bait Net fisheries
• Successful re-assessment of the Mud Crab, Trepang, Spanish Mackerel and Offshore Net and Line fisheries under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act, to allow continued export approval of product from the fisheries
• Conducted a formal review of the management arrangements for the Aquarium Fishery
• Development of a proposed framework examining an individual catch quota system for the Timor Reef Fishery
• Development proposal for the combined offshore snapper fisheries
• Establishment of an Ornamental Fish Reference Group to address issues in relation to the management and control of ornamental fish in the NT 
• Introduction of a Public Aquarium licence to enable the harvest and display of aquarium stock without trading
• Provision of advice and input into the establishment of a NT Marine Protected Areas Strategy
• Recruited a new Indigenous Business Apprentice to the ARM team
