Aquatic Animal Health

In all intensive farming systems management of stock health is critical. The Berrimah Veterinary Laboratory, a NATA accredited facility, provides a comprehensive range of bacteriological, pathological and virology services to support the aquaculture industry. These services are coordinated for aquaculture and fisheries by the Manager Aquatic Animal Health and operated by a range of professional and technical staff.

The aquatic animal health programme plays an important role developing and updating translocation protocols to ensure that adequate quarantine procedures are in place for inter-state movement of stock.

In addition to routine assessment of health of stock and providing a diagnostic service to industry, the programme can undertake screening of stock on behalf of industry as requested on a commercial basis.

Fish disease diagnosis is just one of the functions of the aquatic animal health program at the Berrimah Veterinary Laboratories.
