Aboriginal Liaison Officer

The Aboriginal Liaison Officer assists the Northern Territory Police Marine & Fisheries Enforcement Unit in the promotion of the FISHWATCH campaign out in the communities. He has also acted as an education officer, visiting several primary and secondary schools to promote fisheries management and its benefits.

The demand for fishery extension services, management, legal , and licensing advice continues to grow. Part of this need is met through the establishment of the consultative committees and has been assisted by the appointment of a dedicated Aboriginal Liaison Officer. Other Fisheries Division staff continues to provide what support they can within the limits of time and budget constraints.

The Aboriginal Liaison Officer acts as Secretary/Executive Officer to the Aboriginal consultative committees to assist in the development and management of commercial and subsistence operations for these groups. This is done in consultation with the Office of Aboriginal Development.
