Chief Minister's Medal
As part of the Northern Territory Government’s commitment to excellence in the public sector, the Chief Minister’s Public Sector Medal is a prestigious medal designed to recognise an employee’s outstanding and meritorious public service.
What is the Medal awarded for?
Outstanding and meritorious service is the definitive criteria for the Medal.
Outstanding and meritorious service includes service above and beyond the normal requirements of the position, a special achievement or success in the performance of duty in difficult or unusual circumstances, or sustained high level performance by an individual with a focus on outcomes and recognisable benefits to clients, to Territorians and to the workplace.
The length of an officer’s service in the Northern Territory Public Sector is not sufficient basis for nomination.
Who is eligible for the Medal?
Northern Territory Public Sector employees. It is available to any public sector employee, including employees involved in frontline and operational roles.
How should nominations be prepared?
The nomination form
A nomination form must be completed and the information provided is treated as confidential.
Agency statement
An agency nomination statement must accompany the nomination form. There is provision on the second page of the nomination form for the agency nomination statement, however agencies can attach a separate statement if preferred.
Ideally this statement should be from the nominee’s most senior manager. The statement should demonstrate how the nominee has shown outstanding commitment, excellence in public administration and realised agency objectives.
Referee support
Referee statements are required from two people who are in a position to comment on outstanding and meritorious service of the nominee. These people could be managers, co-workers, clients and external stakeholders. Referee statements must accompany the nomination.
Supporting material
Where relevant, agencies may like to provide material that supports the nomination and showcases the achievements of the nominee.
Endorsement
Nominations must be made through agency chief executives and clearly show that they have the support of the agency chief executive.
Medal ceremony
Medal presentations will be part of the presentation event for the Chief Minister’s Awards for Excellence in the Public Sector that are held annually.
Medal recipients and their Chief Executive will be notified in writing prior to this event.
