Building Northern Territory Support for Defence.
The Northern Territory is enjoying a new era of economic growth, and the continuing build up of the Defence presence in the north and the development of the Territory's Defence support industry are playing their part. The Defence sector is a significant contributor to the Northern Territory economy. Chapter 17 of the Northern Territory Government 2009-10 budget paper provides more details.

In recognition of the contribution Defence makes to both the economy and the community, the Northern Territory Government administers a Ministry of Defence Support.
Approximately 10% of the Australian Defence Force combat forces are based in the Northern Territory, and it is home to the ADF's newest and most advanced platforms, such as the Tiger Armed Reconnaissance Helicopters, Armidale Class Patrol Boats, F/A 18 Hornets and the Abrams M1A1 main battle tank.
The Northern Territory Government is working closely with Defence and industry to assist industry grow and align its capability to support the Defence presence based in the North of Australia.
With a great lifestyle, a contemporary university, significant infrastructure developments such as the Darwin Waterfront Development, the continued development of East Arm port the AustralAsia Railway, and Darwin international airport , Darwin is fast developing as a regional supply, service and distribution centre.
To support the ongoing build up of Defence technology based in the north, the Northern Territory Government is developing a 53 hectare Defence Support Industrial Park, close to Robertson Barracks - the home of 1st Brigade.
The Northern Territory Government is helping build a business environment conducive to investment in infrastructure and workforce development.
