The Industry Sector Snapshots are a factual overview of 14 key industry sectors. The Snapshots provide some insights into the outlook and opportunities for each sector.

Agriculture, Forestry & Fishing

The Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing sector includes all units mainly engaged in 'agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting'.

Communication Services

The Communication Services sector includes all units mainly engaged in providing postal, courier and telecommunication services.

Construction

The Construction sector is one of the largest sectors of the Northern Territory economy. It is the fifth largest contributor to GSP in the Northern Territory.

Electricity, Gas & Water

The Electricity, Gas and Water Supply sector is the smallest sector of the Northern Territory economy. It is one of the lowest employing sectors of the economy.

Finance & Insurance

Mainly engaged in the provision of: Finance, Investing money in predominantly financial assets, Services to lenders, borrowers and investors, Insurance cover of all types.

Government Administration & Defence

Government administration and regulatory activities, judicial authorities and commissions, representatives of overseas governments, and the Army, Navy and Air Defence forces and civilian units.

Health & Education Services

The Health and Community Services sector includes all units mainly engaged in providing health and community services.

Manufacturing

The Manufacturing sector includes those units engaged in the physical or chemical transformation of materials and components into new products.

Mining

The Mining sector includes all units mainly engaged in mining, including exploration for minerals, and the provision of a wide variety of services supporting mining and mineral exploration.

Personal & Other Services

The Personal and Other Services sector includes units which are mainly engaged in providing personal services.

Property & Business Service

The Property and Business Services sector includes all units predominantly engaged in renting and leasing assets as well as units engaged in providing a wide variety of business services.

Tourism

Tourism expenditure is spread over a number of production sectors including Accommodation; Cafes and Restaurants; Cultural and Recreational Services; Retail Trade and Transport.

Transport & Storage

The Transport and Storage sector includes all units mainly engaged in providing passenger or freight transport by road, rail, water or air terminal facilities for passengers or freight.

Wholesale & Retail Trade

Having linkages to all sectors of the economy, the future of the Retail and Wholesale sectors is dependent on population growth and the general economic climate.
