Message from the Minister - Foreword

Building Stronger Territory Trade is a first for the Northern Territory.

Trade is a key feature of our economy and contributes to more than one in every four Territory jobs. Our trade performance has been strong, with exports per capita more than double the national average, but we can achieve more.

Trade growth is essential to ensure the future economic development of the Northern Territory. Our challenge is to take the next major steps together to broaden and strengthen our international trade and capitalise on the Territory's competitive advantages. Our abundant natural resources, location, proximity to major markets, transport, infrastructure, skills, knowledge and engagement in our international region are among these advantages.

The Northern Territory International Trade Strategy, Building Stronger Territory Trade, outlines how we are planning to contribute to the expansion of international trade in genuine partnership with business, industry associations and the broader community.

Building Stronger Territory Trade is an integral component of our Economic Development Strategy. It has been developed following extensive and wide-ranging consultation and incorporates the valuable comments and contributions provided to us.
