Requirements for Registration
The qualifications, experience and insurance requirements for registration in each category are listed in the attached Summary of Qualifications, Experience and Insurance Criteria. These requirements were specified by Ministerial Determination on 31 August 2006 and Amendment of Minister's Determination dated 5 February 2008 .

Building Contractor Residential (Restricted) |
Scope of Works |
A Building Contractor Residential (Restricted) is required for the construction of
- a Class 1a detached house,
- a Class 1a attached dwelling or Class 2 building of one or two storeys;
- a Class 10 building attached to a Class 1a or Class 2 building referred to in paragraph (a) or (b) if it is constructed at the same time as the Class 1a or Class 2 building;
- a retaining wall (whenever constructed) that is not attached to a Class 1a or Class 2 building referred to in paragraph (a) or (b) but on which the integrity of such a building depends;
And the value of the work is $12,000 or above.

Scope of Works |
A Building Contractor Residential (Unrestricted) is required for the construction of
- a Class 1a detached house,

- a Class 10 building attached to a Class 1a or Class 2 building referred to in paragraph (a) or (b) if it is constructed at the same time as the Class 1a or Class 2 building;
- a retaining wall (whenever constructed) that is not attached to a Class 1a or Class 2 building referred to in paragraph (a) or (b) but on which the integrity of such a building depends;
And the value of the work is $12,000 or above.

Scope of Works |
A Building Certifier (Residential) may issue building permits and occupancy permits for class 1 and 10 buildings or structures, in accordance with the requirements of the NT Building Act, Building Regulations and provisions of the Building Code of Australia.

Scope of Works |
A Building Certifier (Unrestricted) may issue building permits and occupancy permits for all classes of buildings or structures, in accordance with the requirements of the NT Building Act, Building Regulations and provisions of the Building Code of Australia.

Certifying Engineer (Hydraulic) |
Scope of Works |
A Hydraulic Engineer may certify the design and/or construction of plumbing and draining works and hydraulic fire services servicing buildings or structures of all classes, including plumbing and drainage works (including on-site sewerage treatment systems), fire hydrants, fire hose reels and fire sprinklers/suppression systems, in accordance with the provisions of the Building Code of Australia and Building Regulations (4).

A Mechanical Engineer may certify the design and/or construction of mechanical systems servicing buildings or structures of all classes, including lift systems and air handling/ventilation systems, in accordance with the provisions of the Building Code of Australia.

Scope of Works |
A Certifying Plumber and Drainer may certify the design and/or construction of plumbing and drainage works in all classes of buildings, in accordance with the provisions of Building Regulations (4) (AS/NZS:3500); certify the construction of hydraulic fire services ie. fire hydrants and fire hose reels, in accordance with the approved design and (AS/NZS:3500).
